Yash Thakur: The Rising Star of Lucknow Super Giants

Yash Thakur: The New Young Gun in LSG's Pace Unit

Yash Thakur has been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several years but always as a net-bowler for different franchises. However, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) splurged on the young pacer this year, and he finally made his IPL debut on April 3 against Chennai Super Kings. Thakur's wicket-taking ability and adaptability to bowl at the early and late stages of an innings caught the eye of LSG. He took his first wicket in the next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and picked up four wickets against Punjab Kings on April 28. Let's learn more about the promising young pacer.

Rise to Fame

Thakur's talent shone at the domestic level during the Vidarbha vs Delhi match in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He delivered a stunning over in the last over, helping Vidarbha beat Delhi to enter the SMAT semi-final. Thakur has an action similar to Navdeep Saini and can swing the ball both ways. He also has an excellent record in SMAT, with 15 wickets in ten games in the previous edition.

Impressive Stats

In his T20 career, Thakur has an economy rate of 6.86 and has taken 60 wickets. He can bowl with the new ball and at the death, with six wickets and an economy rate of 6.4 in the former and an average of 7.3 and an economy rate of 67.2 in the latter. His incredible average of 14.8 shows his wicket-taking ability and his talent to handle pressure situations.

Pacer Requirements for LSG

LSG had an excellent pace unit last year, with Mohsin Khan performing well for the team. Mohsin took 14 wickets for the franchise with an economy rate of 5.97 and bowled in both the powerplay and at the death. Thakur was the net-bowler for Punjab Kings last year, captained by KL Rahul, who now heads LSG. Thakur is familiar with Rahul's guidance, and he can fill the void left by Mohsin's departure from the team.

In conclusion, Thakur's performances so far have impressed LSG, and he looks set to become a valuable asset for the team's pace unit in the ongoing IPL season.
